Project Description:
The project will support the upgrade and restructuring of the RISE-Health Research Unit – Health Research Network through the modernisation of its scientific infrastructure and the implementation of its digital transformation strategy. The investment aims to create a more integrated, collaborative and technologically advanced research environment, strengthening the Unit’s capacity to undertake high-quality interdisciplinary health research while fostering scientific excellence, internationalisation, advanced training, and the transfer of knowledge to society.
Objectives
The overall objectives of this investment are to:
- Strengthen the scientific and technological infrastructure of the RISE-Health Research Unit and its research hubs.
- Support the provision of shared scientific and technological resources for R&D activities, as well as initiatives aimed at creating, strengthening and enhancing the conditions provided by the management hubs to achieve the strategic objectives of RISE-Health.
- Complement the funding secured by the management hubs for general activities and internationalisation, thereby ensuring institutional conditions that maximise the effective use of available resources, particularly by supporting research development strategies and career stabilisation.
- Contribute to the additional operational costs associated with exploiting the results of successfully completed research activities and projects, thereby enhancing their sustainability and scientific impact.
In the specific case of RISE-Health@UPT, the investment aims to strengthen scientific and technological capacity through the enhancement of the Neuroscience Laboratory, contributing to the development of more advanced experimental methodologies, the production of high-quality scientific knowledge, and increased participation in national and international health research networks.
Expected Outcomes
The investment is expected to strengthen the scientific, technological and organisational capacity of RISE-Health by modernising its research infrastructure and providing shared scientific and technological resources across its research hubs. The upgrade of research equipment and the digital transformation of the Unit will create improved conditions for conducting research of excellence, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening internationalisation, increasing participation in competitive research projects, and producing high-impact scientific outputs. In addition, the investment will enhance the environment for advanced training of students and researchers while increasing the Unit’s attractiveness for recruiting and retaining research talent.
In the specific case of RISE-Health@UPT, the modernisation of the Neuroscience Laboratory is expected to expand the available experimental capabilities, enhance the quality and robustness of the research undertaken, support the implementation of innovative methodologies in neuroscience and related fields, and strengthen the hub’s participation in national and international research networks.
Project implemented under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) – a nationally implemented program, with an execution period until 2026, which aims to implement a set of reforms and investments designed to restore sustained economic growth after the pandemic, reinforcing the objective of convergence with Europe over the next decade.
